I had a family obligation that kept me from the meeting so I am unable to report on what happened in the Work session.

In the Regular Session,

  • The council voted on several new vehicles for the water department to replace failing vehicles. This is a budgeted expense. The council opted in this situation not to go with the lowest quote, but went instead for a local business. The price difference between the 2 was only a few hundred dollars and Council agreed that with such a small difference, using local business was more important. (all passed)
  • The dumpster law (2nd reading)
  • Land acquisition from the land bank (2nd reading)
  • Voted on a new landscaping contractor contract (passed
  • Adopting provisions mandated by the State of Ohio about tax collections and fees. The City is currently involved in a class action lawsuit to protest these rules, but that is still pending. (passed)
  • Firefighter contract (passed)
  • A change to the rental license ordinance that would make it so that no rental license will be issued if a building has delinquent property tax or nuisance fines. (passed)
  • Declaring 401 W. Glendale a nuisance and condemning it. The property is vacant. It needs to be demolished and the City will be applying for funds to do so. (passed)
  • Allowing Motorcars Acura to put solar panels on their roof (passed)
  • Allowing Mazda of Bedford to begin building on Rockside (passed)
  • Allowing a height variance for the pole barn garage located at 660 Columbus Rd. (failed)

In the reports, some important information was:

  • May 19th 9-12 Shred day
  • Ward meeting for 3 & 5 on April 4th at 7pm
  • Chipper service will be starting back up. Call the Service Dept to make an appointment for them to come pick up.
  • Northfield Bridge has been reported to ODOT and ODOT refused to fix the bridge and said they felt it was a city maintenance issue. The City will be appealing that decision as they feel it is a safety issue.
