Agenda for August 6th, 2018 Bedford City Council Meeting

Here is the agenda for tonight’s City Council meeting.

In the work session, we will be discussing:

  • Energy improvements with Gardiner. We will be getting a 20 minute presentation from them.
  • We will be continuing our discussion of vacant property laws. Basically, we are looking to flesh out and beef up the already existing vacancy list ordinance. Right now, the ordinance says that any foreclosed house is suppose to be report to the City and maintained on a list. This is not currently enforced due to budget constraints. The proposed change would make it so that any home that is foreclosed or vacant for a year must be reported to the City or face a fine. For each year a home is on the list, there would be increasing inspections required. There is an increasing fee that would be assessed every year to pay for the maintenance of the list and the manpower needed for the inspections. We are also looking at clauses requiring proof of insurance and minimum maintenance the of property.

I HIGHLY encourage anyone who may have an opinion one way or the other to either contact your City Council person or to attend the Council meeting.

  • A planning commission appointment

In the Regular session, we will be voting on:

  • Rain barrels. If everyone remembers, we will likely just vote this one down. We were looking to add it so that the residents of Bedford could take advantage of things offered by Tinker’s Creek Watershed that they only offer if a city specifically makes rain barrels allowed. The City Manager believes that we can fulfill that requirement without passing a new law so we will likely not change the law.
  • The GPS technology for the Water Department.
  • Parking fine increases
  • levy assessments (basically permission to take onto a property) for delinquent water bills, criminal nuisance fines, false alarm fines and grass cutting.
  • Contract with ProudCity for a new website
  • Contract with J.D. Striping & Service for longline striping
  • Contract with Cummins Sales for a new Service Garage generator
  • Contract with All Phase Service to install said generator
  • Give permission for the BCDC grant funds to be used for the Broadway Corridor Storefront Improvement Program.
  • Approve additional funds for work at Ellenwood
  • Contract with Gardiner for rooftop compressor replacements
  • Contract for sludge removal at the Waste Water Treatment Plant
  • re-appointing Kristi Glasier to Board of Zoning Appeals
